History of PEHUEN – Patagonia Designs

The name of our company, “PEHUEN - Patagonia Designs,” invokes two distinct meanings. First, it was inspired by the name of the oldest tree in Patagonia, Argentina, the Pehuen—a fixture of Patagonian life which plays a key role in the preparation of bread, wine, guisados and medicine for the Criollos tribe. The Criollos have been called “pehuenches” precisely for their affinity for the Pehuen tree; in fact, Pehuen seeds were once the only food supply available for Criollos communities during harsh winters, causing many to feel attachment and solace towards this staple of their natural environment. Secondly, “Patagonia Designs” derives from the uniquely attractive patterns and designs sewn into the winter-wear used by the Criollos to keep warm in the hard winters characteristic of the Patagonia (particularly in Cordillera de los Andes).

At PEHUEN - Patagonia Designs, we are driven by a variety of goals and objectives, but one in particular directly lends itself to the wonderful history of our convictions. This particular objective is to make our own special contribution to the impressive cultural exchanges of the twenty first century by extending across international borders the colorful and geometric patterns of the Criollos. As a result, we consistently multiply our efforts to offer warm and comfortable fabrics that preserve the vibrant qualities of our ancestors (e.g. throws, blankets, rugs, pillow covers, bed covers and more), while our materials possess meet the highest standards of durability and quality.
